Art Display at J&S

The Grand Opening for The Prairie Palette Painters display at J&S Picture Frame Warehouse is tomorrow, Saturday Dec 3. We will have tea / coffee & goodies available for our visitors.

More art shows ...... how exciting! 

This coming Saturday at the Merril Hills School - just off Valley Road.

And a display at J&S Picture Frame Warehouse until December 19. The Grand Opening is Saturday, Dec 3 with the Prairie Palette Painters.

Decided to be brave and have been experimenting with watercolours. Here is one of the results. Kind of fun medium - not so much to haul back and forth between our two homes  (city / farm). 

Art Battle - Saskatoon

I was thrilled to be invited to participate in the Regional Art Battle Championships here in Saskatoon on July 7. It was a blast - even though I didn't win. The winner was Anthony Masuskapoe - well done!  We had 20 minutes to complete a painting with everyone milling around watching over our shoulders. Then the audience votes for their favourite. My sisters noted that Anthony did not seem to have brought friends to vote for him; and he did not vote for himself. He was a true gentleman competitor. I am super thrilled for him.  Perhaps the most entertaining of the artists was Alegandro Alvarez - he simply popped in his  ear phones and bopped away to his music. Loretta Iris simply sat down and got all into her paints with her hands and an odd assortment of tools that she brought with her.

The winner Anthony Masuskapoe goes on to the national finals in Toronto at the end of this month.

My piece - easy to see how he won.

I was lucky enough to take a carving workshop with Harvey Welch as our instructor. He is great! This is a life-size carving using a wood called tupelo.  I gave this piece to my dad for his 85th birthday.

Early Morning Light

This painting is a more detailed version of my first Art Battle piece last December. I had managed to get a less detailed version of this completed in 12 minutes. This is larger and has much more detail. And took considerably more than 12 minutes to complete.  Size: 25 x 33" Going to Saskatoon Crisis Nursery auction.  June 3, 2016 at the German Cultural Centre

Gourds

Super excited about the delivery of my gourds. Can hardly wait to start working with them, but know that I have to get some bookwork done first to keep the tax man happy - but that will be after my art shows are over. Showing with Prairie River Artists at the Albert Community Centre April 15-17 and with the Mayfair Artists at the Mayfair Church April 23 & 24.  Found a Canadian gourd supplier in Ontario: https://www.northerndipper.com
